Hi Dmb0000006, thanks for contributing to the various biology articles. You probably should look at our naming conventions and Manual of Style, to make sure you create articles that use the proper wikipedia format. For example, please don't forget to actually include and bold the name of the article in the article itself. Also, please consider adding content to existing articles if they are already related (e.g. genome and genetic makeup) rather than writing a one sentence article, which is unlikely to be expanded. If you do write a short article, which is likely to be expanded, please note it as a stub article, by including the message at the end of the article. Thanks. --Lexor|Talk 00:58, 20 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Did you just invent this "spliceome" term? Stewart Adcock 22:51, 20 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Actually I have heard it (but it should be spelled spliceosome) used in bioinformatics, it gets Google hits if it's correctly spelled [1]. It perhaps doesn't warrant a complete article to itself, however. --Lexor|Talk 23:01, 20 Feb 2004 (UTC)
Hmm, I have to correct myself. The spliceosome is the the actual molecule that does the splicing, but the spliceome is the set of all alternative splices. I suggest that spliceome redirect to spliceosome, and incorporate that material into a new section in spliceosome. --Lexor|Talk 23:37, 20 Feb 2004 (UTC)
Great that you learn something! Cheers, Dan. --Dan 19:11, 11 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

    • I suggest you use subpages to create promotional pages for your friends and family as the ones you made are likely to be deleted, since they don't comply with WikiPedia's policy. Subpages can be made simply by linking like this User:Dmb000006/Page_name. You could also point them to theFAQ.

What programme was the word used on? Mgm|(talk) 21:32, Dec 21, 2004 (UTC) Thanks for the quick reply. I'll pass the info about Scilebrity on the people on VfD .

In your preferences (see the top bar in the monobook skin), there is an option "your nickname (for signatures)". I put the following code in there: Mgm|(talk) which results in my current signature.

Hope that helps. Mgm|(talk) 18:59, Dec 22, 2004 (UTC)

Don't sweat it. I'm sure I copied from someone else. :) Please note, I changed the code above, something seems to be screwed up with my sig lately. Mgm|(talk) 08:24, Dec 23, 2004 (UTC)
The new Mediawiki software adds the extra coding to your signature, remove it from your preferences ( and the closing ) and you're all set. Mgm|(talk) 08:43, Dec 23, 2004 (UTC)

When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labelled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

When you leave the edit summary blank, some of your edits could be mistaken for vandalism and may be reverted, so please always briefly summarize your edits, especially when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you.

Please do not post copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder, as you did to MetaBase. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites (http://biodatabase.org/index.php/Main_Page in this case) or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) then you should do one of the following:

  • If you have permission from the author leave a message explaining the details on the article Talk page and send an email with the message to "permissions-en (at) wikimedia (dot) org". See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
  • If a note on the original website states that re-use is permitted under the GFDL or released into the public domain leave a note at Talk:MetaBase with a link to where we can find that note;
  • If you own the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the GFDL, and note that you have done so on the article Talk page. Alternatively, you may create a note on your web page releasing the work under the GFDL and then leave a note at Talk:MetaBase with a link to the details.

Otherwise, you are encouraged to rewrite this article in your own words to avoid any copyright infringement. After you do so, you should place a hangon tag on the article page and leave a note at Talk:MetaBase saying you have done so. An administrator will review the new content before taking action.

It is also important that all Wikipedia articles have an encyclopedic tone and follow Wikipedia article layout. For more information on Wikipedia's policies, see Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If you want to edit constructively, take a look at the welcome page. Thank you.  But|seriously|folks  03:40, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Copyrights

[edit]

Hi, I sense your frustration, but please understand that Wikipedia has to take copyright issues very seriously. The easiest thing for you to do is probably to license your website under the GFDL in addition to the BioLicense. Also, keeping in mind that we're all volunteers here and there is no general systemic copyright patrol, whenever you copy text from your website to Wikipedia, you should make a note on the article's talk page explaining how it is licensed. Finally, you should be sure to review Wikipedia's conflict of interest policy. I'm not saying, I'm just saying. Also, please be civil in your dealings with other editors and don't expect them to be able to know what you are thinking. That's what the talk pages are for. Cheers! -- But|seriously|folks  07:10, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Another editor has added the prod template to the article Payola (band), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the prod template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. BJBot (talk) 10:59, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The bot only leaves a notice of the deletion, the prod was added by an IP. BJTalk 19:32, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there, MySpace links are normally considered a bit dodgy and if you're trying to establish the notability of the band, you're probably better leaving them out for the moment. Websites made by bands aren't generally accepted as ways to show that they are notable - you need to find independent sources instead. You may be able to add the MySpace link in later, once the article has developed more substantial content. For now, can you find anything to show that the band is notable? At the minute, you haven't done so. Have they had substantial coverage in independent media? Have they had major chart success or won significant awards or accolades? Are they signed to a major label? Is there anything else you can write, to show that the band is well known, or notable? You're better off putting your efforts into answering these questions in the article than providing links to the band's own advertising on MySpace. Let me know if I can give you any more help with this. Cheers, Papa November (talk) 23:52, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

PDBwiki

[edit]

Hi Dan! Are you the same Dan who edits in PDBWiki? I am asking because the idea of PDBWiki seems rather questionable to me. In some way, there is already a partially annotated PDB, and that is PDBsum. In addition, PDB is enormously redundant. One should make annotations of proteins or protein domains rather than individual PDB files, which leads to databases like Pfam, UniProt and SCOP. So, one should try to improve annotations in these databases, rather than in original PDB. This is just a friendly comment; maybe that helps. Cheers,Biophys (talk) 16:06, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of Payola (band)

[edit]

I have nominated Payola (band), an article you created, for deletion. I do not feel that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Payola (band). Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Papa November (talk) 09:06, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

A tag has been placed on Zombie Zombie (band) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, individual animal(s), an organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject of the article is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding hang on at the top of the article, immediately below the speedy deletion () tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate), and providing your reasons for contesting on the article's talk page, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. You may freely add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

You may want to read the guidelines for specific types of articles: biographies, websites, bands, or companies.  -- WikHead (talk) 21:53, 5 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Cheers mate. Forgot how to use the album templates too :( --Dan|(talk) 22:34, 5 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I really think you should read WP:MUSICBIO before trying to make any more infoboxes, and if it still seems like a good idea, perhaps it would be best to use the Wikipedia:Article wizard to create your article(s) as user-space draft(s), rather than sandboxing in main name-spaces. Good luck.  -- WikHead (talk) 23:37, 5 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Will do. Thanks for taking the time, --Dan|(talk) 23:46, 5 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Frank face 80px.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Frank face 80px.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add OTRS pending to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. –Drilnoth (T • C • L) 14:06, 20 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
